How to Get Virtual Care

Adult residents (ages 18+) of Western North Carolina can see a UNC Health primary care provider for mild symptoms without an appointment through UNC Health Virtual Care Now free of charge for those impacted by Hurricane Helene. Using your camera- and microphone-enabled phone, tablet or computer, you can access convenient, secure and flexible care when you need it. Patients can get in line for Virtual Care Now through My UNC Chart. If you do not have a My UNC Chart account, you can easily get one when you get in line. Virtual services are available 6 AM – 10 PM, 7 days per week.

While this Standard Charges & Shoppable Services resource provides valuable information, it does not estimate the out-of-pocket costs you might incur for receiving services at UNC Health. We provide other ways to help patients understand their expected out-of-pocket costs, including the My Cost Estimator available through My UNC Chart. UNC Health Blue Ridge also works with patients who have financial need through our Financial Assistance Program.

For patients who have already received services from UNC Health Blue Ridge, refer to your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) and your billing statement to see the amount you owe for your visit. If you have questions about what you see listed on your EOB or billing statement, please call our Billing Customer Service Center at (800) 594-8624 (toll free long distance) or (984) 974-2222. Customer Service representatives are available Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (except holidays).

As of January 1, 2021, all U.S. hospitals are required to publicly post charges for hospital-based procedures, services, supplies, prescription drugs, and diagnostic tests, as well as fees associated with equipment or facilities used during a patient’s appointment or inpatient stay. Hospitals are also required to display at least 300 shoppable services.

Understanding the Data

There are three columns in each document. All of these fields are searchable.

  1. The first column is a description of the item or procedure.
  2. The second column contains a code, or codes, used by all hospitals to identify common items. This is called the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS). This column may display a Common Procedural Terminology (CPT) code.
  3. The third column is the charge per unit of an item or service.

The standard charge listed may not be the amount that you see on a bill if you are a patient at UNC Health Blue Ridge due to various agreements we have in place with insurers, Medicare and Medicaid. The charges of an item or service is based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the charges per unit at the time of purchase for supplies and medications and the classification of a hospital based on federal government standards.
