How to Get Virtual Care

Adult residents (ages 18+) of Western North Carolina can see a UNC Health primary care provider for mild symptoms without an appointment through UNC Health Virtual Care Now free of charge for those impacted by Hurricane Helene. Using your camera- and microphone-enabled phone, tablet or computer, you can access convenient, secure and flexible care when you need it. Patients can get in line for Virtual Care Now through My UNC Chart. If you do not have a My UNC Chart account, you can easily get one when you get in line. Virtual services are available 6 AM – 10 PM, 7 days per week.

CME Allowance

Fellows are allowed a total of $7,200 over a three-year period for scholarly activities. The money is divided over each academic year and the funds are available July 1 - June 30.

PGY-4 through PGY-6 - $2,400 annually

Vacation / Time Off

PGY-4 through PGY-6

24 vacation days each academic year to be used for personal time off, sickness/emergency, or interviews.

  • Three (3) additional days are allowed to be used for board exam or poster presentations.
  • Five (5) additional days are allowed to be used for CME at National Conferences or Specialty Board Exams.
  • Total allowable time off is 32 days.

Uniforms

Two (2) lab coats and laundry service provided

Meals

Meal points are provided quarterly for use in the two hospital cafeterias

Moonlighting

  • PGY-4 through PGY-6 residents/fellows are allowed to moonlight assuming program director and DIO approval of the activity
  • There is a popular in-house voluntary moonlighting opportunity available

Parking

Free covered and reserved parking for residents/fellows

Social Events / Activities

  • Departmental activities (e.g. picnics, dinners)
